Volkswagen and Suzuki co-developed mini-cars can be produced in Esztergom

The alliance of Volkswagen and Suzuki was announced in Tokyo at the end of the last year. For 1.7 million Euros VW has gained nearly twenty per cent of shares in the Japanese company, and Suzuki has bought VW shares for 850 million Euros. And although in recent weeks the Financial Times wrote, referring to German and Japanese sources, that there were serious problems in the Volkswagen-Suzuki cooperation, it was denied by Volkswagen, and Martin Winterkorn, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG announced that the two companies were planning to develop a mini-car together, basically for the Indian market.

The two leaders are together: Osamu Suzuki and Martin Winterkorn

The AutoPro was informed that the potential nominee for producing of the VW-Suzuki mini-cars is the Suzuki factory in Esztergom. The leader of the biggest European car factory said to the automotive portal’s question:

- If the Suzuki SX4 has a descendant, then I can imagine that it will be produced in Esztergom – said Martin Winterkorn to AutoPro.hu.

In alliance: They are planning a co-developed mini-car

The VW’s first man’s statement is remarkable because it’s a well-functioning practice at the company that they don’t uncover many special facts until the birth of the official decision. The possibility sketched by Winterkorn is strengthened by the fact that, according to our information, visitors from the Volkswagen Factory Wolfsburg often came to the Esztergom Suzuki Factory last month to examine the possibilities of the cooperation and the production. As the new type of Opel Agila hasn’t been produced in the Hungarian factory now, there will be remarkable free capacity in Eszergom, and it could be an argument in favour of Hungary.
