Audi’s Győr plant halts production. Due to a global shortage in semiconductors, the Audi Hungaria plant in Győr is forced to shut down production for an indefinite duration.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, held talks last week with the management of SK Innovation, which was followed by an announcement of the South Korean company to soon launch the construction of their second Hungary-based production site.

Last week the Hungarian-Finnish Battery Day took place, which saw representation from both countries’ embassies and several companies engaged in battery development and manufacturing.

Schaeffler Savaria Kft. has reached a new milestone, celebrating the production of the 10 millionth centrifugal pendulum-type absorber.

Zalaegerszeg-based ZMT Hungary Kft. have launched the manufacturing of automotive components with a HUF 250 million investment, and are committed to spending another 50 million on a youth programme in the years to come.

Machine tools manufacturer DMG Mori and software developer Heitec have announced to establish a joint research centre in Budapest. The Japanese-German cooperation will be engaged in the development of software suitable for the digitalisation of machine tool manufacturing processes.

In May, 66,000 used cars changed ownership in Hungary. This is a new record in 2021, and indicates market activity returning to pre-pandemic levels.

Last year saw the launch of the government’s electric vehicle incentive programme. The HUF 1 billion budget was exhausted already on the first day.

The Curia of Hungary made a favourable ruling to motorists. A lawsuit against Uniqua Insurance ended with a ruling against insurers to prescribe which parts distributor car owners must opt for during repairs.

In May, new car registrations increased by over 50 percent year on year in the European Union but still fell short of pre-pandemic volumes.
