Construction of BMW plant in Debrecen enters new phase, Audi Hungary to support university-led research for sustainability, Suzuki dethroned as customer-favourite in Hungary in March. The construction of the new BMW plant in Debrecen has entered a new phase. The construction of the first facilities is currently underway, while recruiting continues for new engineering positions.

Audi Hungaria and Széchenyi István University have signed a cooperation agreement on joint sustainability R&D projects. The projects extend to alternative fuels, the industrial application of hydrogen and reducing carbon emissions.

BMW has reported on a significant sales drop in the first quarter of 2022. At the same time, the group’s other brands showed positive results in the first three months of the year.

Mercedes-Benz has also reported on decreasing sales volumes in Q1 2022. The 500,000 units sold by the brand represent a 15 percent drop.

Car sharing firm GreenGo has expanded its Budapest fleet from 320 to 400 cars. The company’s fleet still exclusively consists of full-electric models.

In seven counties a total of 32 new buses have entered service at Volánbusz. The Mercedes-Benz Intouro M buses will operate in intercity service with a home destination in county seats or larger towns.

AutoWallis Group, a company listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange, has continued its expansion. The car trading company has concluded the acquisition of Slovenian Avto Aktiv and made an agreement with a Portugal-based partner on the joint acquisition of Renault Hungária.

March brought decreasing registration volumes on the Hungarian passenger car market and saw Suzuki dethroned as market leader. Toyota led registrations with 1,537 units, followed by Suzuki in second place with 1,278 units sold.

In Russia, new car registrations showed a whopping 43 percent fall after numerous manufacturers had halted production and sales in the country due to economic sanctions from the West.
