A joint venture by LG Chem and Toray has announced to build a HUF 270-280 billion battery separator foil (LiBSF) plant in Hungary. The new plant is planned to produce 800 square metres of battery separator foil annually by 2028, according to the announcement published by LG Chem.

Overall, the chip shortage is causing the OEM vehicle output to decrease by approximately 10 million cars, half a million of which will hit Renault alone.

Volkswagen AG brands are already reporting losses, but they are not alone, several other manufacturers are also showing their discontent with their Q3 results.

In contrast, Daimler showed more stable revenues and equalled its performance from the same period in the previous year, although with a hit in the volume of cars sold.

Volkswagen is hard at work with its electrification efforts, with the Trinity, its flagship model, receiving its own production hall at the car maker’s Wolfsburg plant.

According to VW boss Herbert Diess, layoffs are certainly expected at the Wolfsburg unit as part of the company’s push to increase efficiency.

Audi is continuing its electric offensive, and is launching the development of high-voltage batteries at its Neckarsulm unit.

Opel announced to close down its Rüsselheim tool plant by the end of the year. Electric cars are made of significantly fewer components, which means their assembly requires far fewer tools.

High demand is causing a temporary shortage of AdBlue additives. The material is used in modern diesel engines to help achieve emission quotas – MOL has announced a temporal restriction on AdBlue purchases.
