Last week, a number of European car manufacturing sites restarted production or announced to resume manufacturing activities this week. Let’s recap what last week brought in Hungary’s automotive sector. Clicking on the highlighted items will open the full stories.

Audi Hungaria Zrt. restarted production at its engine plant last week. Although most Hungarian plants still remain closed, preparations for resuming production have commenced at all OEMs.

Although the Opel plant in Szentgotthárd is taking extensive safety precautions, it has not disclosed the expected date of reopening.

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét is expecting to resume manufacturing activities on April 27th.

Suzuki’s Esztergom-based plant is also planning a production restart on April 27th.

In turn, the Bridgestone tyre plant in Tatabánya has already returned to regular manufacturing volumes.

Last week saw Hankook recalling workers as a gradual production ramp-up scheme, while Denso Gyártó Magyarország Kft. doubled the number of shifts from one to two.

The economic downturn is also rearing its head in the used car market. Used car dealers are facing a 75 percent drop due to the pandemic.

London-based analysts investigated economic prospects in the face of the Covid-19 crisis in the CEE region, including Hungary.

The Covid-19 situation is taking its toll on the whole of the global economy. China is expecting its weakest growth rate in the last 44 years.
