Battery manufacturer Sangsin Hungary Kft. will expand their Jászberény plant with a HUF 10 billion investment, creating 150 new jobs, Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó announced last week.

Suzuki published their 2020 sales results last week, revealing that the Japanese manufacturer has led the Hungarian new car market for the fifth year in a row.

Last week also brought news in Hungary’s bus manufacturing efforts. The third model being developed by Debrecen-based Inter Traction Electrics was spotted last week during a public road test.

Volkswagen AG boss Herbert Diess said in an interview last week that the unfavourable capital assessment of traditional car manufacturers poses a significant disadvantage in their efforts to increase competitiveness.

From January, a new department will be responsible for the development of charging systems inside the Volkswagen AG. The Charging and Energy business will be led by Elke Temme, who was previously the CEO of Innogy eMobility Solutions.

The first new premium electric model developed under the Audi Artemis project will likely make its debut at the International Motor Show Germany, to be held in Munich in the autumn of 2021.

Fresh data has been published on the sale of new and used cars in 2020. Both markets showed a marked decline in Hungary from previous years. Eventually, the volume of car imports managed to marginally exceed new car registrations by the end of the year.

Registration for the Green Bus project opened on January 4th. The call is open to municipalities with a population over 25,000 to request funding support for the purchase of electric buses.

The Central Statistical Office (KSH) have published their employment statistics for November 2020, revealing that after a temporary decline, Hungary eventually managed to meet the EU employment quota.
