Stadler and Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurti Vasút (GYSEV) Zrt signed a contract for the delivery of nine Flirt Intercity electric locomotives, plus an optional four. The railway company would put the vehicles into service on the Sopron-Budapest and Szombathely-Budapest routes from 2027, informed the Stadler Trains Magyarország Zrt.

In the announcement, the signing of the contract is called of railway historical significance, because new Intercity locomotives were last procured in Hungary thirty years ago. Dual-current vehicles will be able to drive not only in Hungary, but also in Austria. The carriage cabinets of the five-part, modern assemblies are manufactured at the Stadler plant in Szolnok.

The entry into force of the supplier contract is conditional upon the conclusion of the financing contract. The purchase would be financed by the GYSEV EIB loan.

GYSEV Zrt. must decide how many option trains it will order within three months of the contract coming into force. According to the delivery schedule, Stadler will hand over the first vehicle in the 36th month following the entry into force of the contract, while the last unit of the basic order will be on sale within 44 months. After that, Stadler has another two years to obtain the permits entitling it to traffic in Austria.

GYSEV already has Flirt, but it's not like this

Between 2013 and 2018, the railway company already ordered twenty Flirt trains from Stadler in three purchases, however, the new Intercity vehicles will differ from the previously purchased fleet. In addition to the maintenance-friendly design, the manufacturer equips the vehicles with modern electric traction motors with which the trains can be operated with lower energy consumption values, which also reduces the costs over the entire life of the vehicle.

The length of the five-part vehicles, capable of a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, is 106.2 meters, and the number of seats can be flexibly changed depending on the summer and winter seating arrangement. In winter configuration, the number of seats is 280, of which 32 are first class. In the summer, when the demand for transporting bicycles is greater, the reduction of second-class seats makes it possible to transport 18 bicycles.
