ELTE's team (Péter Gyimesi, Áron Noszály and Péter Varga) won the bronze medal at the continental tournament, ahead of renowned institutions such as the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. With this result, the team has been invited to the world finals of the competition, which will be held in September 2024 in Kazakhstan, where the team will represent Hungary for the first time in the history of the competition.

The coaches of the ELTE competitors were Zsolt Németh, Assistant Professor at the ELTE Faculty of Informatics and László Nikházy, PhD student at the Faculty.

A prestigious competition

The ICPC is the most prestigious international programming team competition for university students. The students have five hours to solve as many as possible of the 10 to 15 challenges. With only one computer at their disposal, the competition is not only about algorithmic problem solving and accurate implementation, but also about communication, resource sharing and teamwork.

ELTE's participation in the ICPC competitions was supported by the National Talent Programme grant NTP-NTMV-23.
