Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, said last week in an interview that the German OEM will be prioritizing the luxury segment, gradually phasing out its compact cars in favour of higher-tier models – the A-Class could be one of the first casualties of the German OEM's new strategy (pictured above).

This step is not surprising considering the company’s 2021 fiscal results: most of its profits are generated by luxury models, while at the same time it is forced to run lower production volumes due to the ongoing material shortages. A decision had to be made, and it seems Mercedes-Benz has opted to keep its focus on the luxury segment.

OEMs are struggling to meet market demand due to the war and material shortages, and are forced to keep production volumes low. Not independent of the above issues, Audi is considering to extend its hybrid working model.
