Jász-Plasztik inaugurates battery factory in Jászberény

Jász-Plasztik Kft., an automotive supplier under full Hungarian ownership, has built a new battery plant with a HUF 10.3 billion (EUR 33 million) investment, creating 350 jobs and increasing the company´s headcount to 2,800.

The new plant will feature battery production technology that have previously not been used in Hungary. Thus, Jász-Plasztik will reach a new milestone by becoming a Tier 1 supplier in the auto industry.

Jász-Plasztik owner Lajos Kasza Jr. said at the inauguration ceremony that in connection with the production of Start-Stop batteries every single technology has been renewed in order to add capacities and widen the company's product range.

Founded in 1990, Jász-Plasztik Kft. is a family business under a full Hungarian ownership. The company's two main activities are plastic moulding and battery manufacture.

Jász-Plasztik is an important supplier in the automotive industry, electronics industry and household industry. The company's customers include Electrolux, Samsung, Jabil and Volkswagen.

The company has eight production sites in Hungary but it also has a location in Galanta, Slovakia, and Mădăraș, Romania. The company, launched 24 years ago with a staff of 17, now has 2,500 employees, while indirectly it provides a livelihood for 6,000.

Last year, the company registered a net turnover of HUF 65,1 billion (EUR 216 million) from sales, 23 percent of which resulted from export sales. This year's results from the first half of the year indicate further growth as in H1 2014, the company netted a turnover of HUF 39.5 billion (EUR 133 million).

The new plant, inaugurated in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, was financed from EU funds (30 percent) and the company's own resources (70 percent).

As a result of the investment, the company's battery production capacity will increase from 800,000 units per year to 1.5 million units annually. The investment will create 350 new jobs, increasing the company's headcount to 2,800 in the near future.
