Additional employees required for the third shift have been hired and the training and preparation of the employees have been carried out. The company's headcount is now at 3,500, he added.

Ács said that they are still hiring, and the first graduates of Hungary's dual education system will be offered positions at Mercedes-Benz in June. The HR Director emphasised that the proportion of German employees is getting lower and lower at the Kecskemét plant.

Frank Klein, former CEO of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. announced on March 18 that due to high demand on Mercedes cars, from May the plant will manufacture vehicles 24 hours a day in three shifts.

He said that they'd examined every single variations and finally, they decided that the best set-up for optimal production is three shifts in forward rotation.

Frank Klein will return to Germany to take over the position of leader of global transporter manufacturing at Daimler. He was replaced by Thomas Geier as Factory Director on May 1.

The Kecskemét plant manufactures Mercedes' new-generation compact cars in collaboration with the car maker's Rastatt factory. Shared manufacturing allows flexible and optimal utilisation of production capacity. The Rastatt plant introduced the third shift in production in Octorber 2012. In 2013, the Kecskemét plant produced over 109,000 cars.
