Szijjártó: Hungarian auto industry ahead of challenging year

The Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) held the Automotive Conference 2016 event, inviting prominent players of the industry to discuss the challenges the sector is facing today. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the shortage in skilled manpower is a growing concern.

Held for the third time by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency, the aim of Automotive Conference 2016 is to promote investments with high added value and the role of local suppliers and to evaluate the auto industry's performance in the previous year.

Currently, there are 40 automotive investment projects about to enter the execution stage, with the best-case scenario creating over 8,000 jobs in the coming period.

Foreign minister Péter Szijjártó said that Hungary's auto sector is expected to have a more difficult year in 2016 than the year before, and the next few months will be decisive.

He said Hungary is now in a position where instead of neighbouring nations it has to compete with much larger players of industry, such as South America.
