Suzuki prepares Hungarian production line for new model launch

The Esztergom-based plant of Magyar Suzuki returned to a single-shift operation in September, while the production line is being prepared for the introduction of the new Vitara.

There are two reasons behind the decision: the production of the original SX4 and Splash models was terminated and the new production line for the new Suzuki Vitara, unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, is already being set up.

"There are significant changes under way at our plant," Magyar Suzuki's communicational director Viktória Ruska has told our site. "In September we reduced our production to a single-shift operation and it will remain liek that by the end of the year," she added.

The changes had begun earlier, during the summer break, as the launch of the Vitara's production requires significant changes in production technology. This requires major changes, which will continue through the Christmas break and extend to next year.

Viktória Ruska said that this is not the first time the plant has gone under such a significant transformation – development projects of this magnitude were carried out at the Esztergom plant before the crisis.

The new Vitara was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.

The communicational director said that mass production of the new Vitara will be launched in February 2015, but two-shift operation will be resumed already in January.

Currently the Esztergom plant manufactures the SX4 S-Cross and Swift models.
