At the European Logistics Association's award ceremony for the Professional of the Year and European Gold Medal in Logistics and Supply Chain 2014, held on September 18 in Brussels, Belgium, for the first time in its history, a Hungarian company was among the six finalists.

SMR's logistics solution was already awarded last year by the Hungarian Association of Logistics, Purchasing and Inventory Management (HALPIM).

It is a huge acknowledgement that SMR's presentation entitled International Supplier Chain by SMR Hungary (ISC) project was found the best among all the contestants by the jury.

The project's presenter was Pál-Levente Tibori, SMR's vice-president for production in Eastern Europe and Germany.

As plant director at SMR until June 2014, the vice-president also took part in winning project, focusing on SMR's new internal supply chain.

The aim of the project, completed in seven months and developed in cooperation with Győr-based Széchenyi István University, was the termination of intermediate warehouses.

This gave the basis for an all-extensive solution, thanks to which a significant area has been freed up in the plant, delivery routes have been cut and materials can now be tracked more easily.

The costs of the development were reimbursed in just 2.5 months. According to the SMR group, the new system will also be implemented at the group's other plants worldwide.
