Samvardhana Motherson to build bumper factory in Kecskemét

India-based automotive supplier Samvardhana Motherson Group have plans to build a bumper plant in Kecskemét, creating 4-500 new jobs, project leader Péter Takács said at an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday.

Once permission from the authorities have been granted, the company will invest HUF 30 billion in the first phase of the project.

The project leader said a new production unit will be built by 2017 on a 100,000-square-metre land area as part of a greenfield investment.

According to Takács, the new unit will produce bumpers for a certain model manufactured at the Kecskemét Mercedes plant. The production unit will be built right next to the German car maker's Hungarian plant.

According to Takács, the Samvardhana Motherson Group, established as a family business in 1975 in India, are today the 40th largest automotive supplier in the world.

The company is present in 25 countries with 140 manufacturing locations. The automotive supplier's Hungarian unit was opened in 2009. The company manufactures rear view mirrors in Mosonszolnok and also has a logistics base in Hegyeshalom.

In Hungary, the company has 1,600 employees and registered a revenue €310 million in 2014. The company supplies various automotive OEMs with wiring harnesses, mirrors and other components. In 2014, the company's group-level revenues reached $6.1 billion.
