Q2 losses prompt Daimler to plan lay-off of 20,000 staffers

Daimler have reported on losses in Q2 2020, and shift focus on SUV production as part of a restructuring plan to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on car sales.

It seems painfully clear now that the car maker will most likely terminate the contracts of more than the 15,000 employees it originally planned to lay off.

Due to the significant drop in sales induced by the coronavirus pandemic, the Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars & Vans business registered €1.13 billion in operating losses in the period between April and June.

Quoting internal sources, German business newspaper Handelsblatt reported earlier this week that the German car maker is considering to sell its Iracemapolis plant in Brazil and cancel the expansion of the Kecskemét unit in Hungary.
