Opel celebrates 25 years in Hungary

The General Motors subsidiary was the first international car maker to move its operation to Hungary in January 1991.

The trade organization of Opel Hungary sold a total of 404,425 cars between January 1991 and December 2015.

Between 1992 and 1999, Opel assembled 80,835 Opel Astra and 4,404 Vectra cars at the Szentgotthárd plant.

Since June 1992, the number of engines made there has reached 8,268,006, while the company has also manufactured 6,364,051 cylinder heads since 1997.

To date, Opel continues to be the most popular brand in Hungary with a market share of 11.5 percent (480,000 units), the highest in Europe.
