Nemak takes social responsibility to next level in Győr
Nemak´s aluminium foundry has been in the service of the automotive industry since 1997. Today, it has almost 1,000 employees. The management feel they owe the city a debt of gratitude for providing a home and continuous support for the company. As a result, Nemak is taking part in supporting culture, sports life, education and public health in Győr. These efforts leave clear-cut marks as more and more people know Nemak as a reliable employer.
In early-May, Nemak Győr Kft. supported the local fire department with a HUF 1 million donation. The donation arrived in the shape of a heat camera, now forming part of the technical array of the Fire Department of Győr. The device can be used when visibility is obstructed by thick smoke. The heat sensors help locate people who are trapped by the fire. When the management learned that the fire department needs another one these devices, they did not hesitate to help. Earlier on the foundry used the device for maintenance tasks. It was used to measure the wall thickness of the smelting furnaces.

"In recent years, our company has been characterised by a dynamic growth, and we wanted to give something back to the town and society," economic director Gábor Mersich told our site after the ceremony.
He said that being a dangerous plant, the foundry has a strong connection with the fire department, but he added that thanks to strict precautionary measures and a EUR 1 million fire protection system, this cooperation is mostly professional.
It was said during the interview that not only does Nemak promote the safety of those living in Győr and the region but also offers donations in several other areas. The company is providing support in the fields of healthcare, education and sports.

"All aid requests come to me. A number of foundations, associations and educational institutes turn to us for support. From our limited resources we strive to help locals, but there are exceptions sometimes, such as the Hungarian Kidney Patients' Federation," said Mersich.
Deputy Mayor of Győr Tivadar Somogyi said that when an organisation needs support, he's glad to guide them to us as we always strive to lend a helping hand.
In the field of healthcare not only those with liver disease are the only ones who are supported by the aluminium foundry as the company has helped the town's hospital to buy equipment.
The company is also committed towards the sporting life in Győr. ETO Futsal Club is sponsored by Nemak, while the company, manufacturer of 2.5 million cylinder heads every year, also helped finance the renovation of Lukács Sándor Mechatronical and Mechanical Engineering Vocational School's sports facility and changing rooms. At the same school the company also helped in refurbishing two classrooms.

Nemak donated a robot for training purposes including control software worth over HUF 2 million to Pattantyús Ábrahám Géza Industrial Vocational School. The cooperation between the two schools and Nemak is already well-known to our readers. We have previously reported that the two educational institutes are part of a dual education system, in which the students are helped by Nemak's experienced professionals.
The company is also committed towards culture. Recently, the company was the main sponsor of an event called "Sweet Days in Győr" (Győri Édes Napok), an event focusing on chocolate and other sweets, held for the second time in the town.
Avid theatre-goers might have noticed that in certain plays the characters are using aluminium props. Besides aluminium cylinder heads, Nemak also manufactures lifelike stage props. We must also mention that the company also sponsors events in the region of Győr to support its employees from nearby towns and villages.

Economic director Mersich added that the company does not only provide support when it concerns a lot of people. "It is our task to help our employees if something bad happens to them. The company doubles the sum our co-workers collect to help the person in need. Recently, one of our employees suffered damage caused by fire, and we were quick to help him," Mersich added.
Joining forces among the co-workers is not unheard of at the company. The employees of the foundry also volunteered to help during the flood in 2013. Many fought the tide during working hours in safety clothes provided by Nemak.
"It's difficult to measure the impact of our efforts. We support several movements where children are in the focus, which will affect their long-term future, when they will have to make a decision where to continue their studies.

One of the returns of our support is that we are getting more and more well-known among locals, so when making a career choice, they do not limit their choice to the biggest companies", said Mersich. It has to be said though that Nemak is not only a small, unknown firm from Győr Business Park. The number of the company's employees will soon reach 1,000, thus provide a secure livelihood for 1,000 families.
HR director Dániel Nagy said that the results of their efforts in social responsibility can already be seen at job fairs and various other forums. More and more people associate the company's name with their activities and success.
