Daimler’s Hungarian plant is now engaged in the exclusive production of high-performance AMG models. Preparations for the mass production of Mercedes-Benz AMG Performance compact models already began in 2018 at the Kecskemét plant.

Magyar Suzuki Zrt. has also reached an important milestone, concluding the final stage of its comprehensive R&D project launched back in September 2016. The car maker has carried out significant modernization in its logistics system and created a smart welding network.

One of the world’s largest battery plant is currently under construction in Göd. Samsung SDI’s new battery plant will be built with a HUF 390 billion investment and is set to create 1,200 jobs.

Deufol will build Europe’s most advanced logistics and packaging facility in Debrecen with a €20 million investment. The compound will also house the company’s regional centre for Southern Eastern Europe. The investment brings a new branch of industry, logistics and packaging technology, in the Hungarian town.

Debrecen Airport is under continuous expansion thanks to the influx of large businesses and increasing passenger volumes. Invitations to design a new passenger terminal will be announced later this year.

A new assembly plant is being built in Erdőtelek with a HUF 2 billion investment. SBS Kft., a company engaged in the manufacturing and machining of heavy-duty equipment, railway structures, metal structures and purpose-built welded structures, is expanding with a new plant in Erdőtelek, Heves County.

Joyson Safety Systems Kft. is expanding its production plant in Miskolc, modernizing production activities and implementing a new technology with a HUF 16 billion investment.

Daimler reported on record-breaking sales in September. The car maker’s sales volume picked up in the third quarter after a weak first half.

Audi AG was only able to report on growing sales in September thanks to the base effect: one year ago, the Ingolstadt car maker’s new car registrations fell by 22 percent due to the introduction of the new WLTP procedure.

Thyssenkrupp is planning a €200 million annual cost reduction scheme, causing the company to sell further divisions after the earlier sale of the elevator business. The head of the industrial division is stepping down, while the head of the company’s parts and accessories business is staying in his position.

Hungary’s industrial production is on a roller-coaster. Analysts explain the weak end-of-summer results with a different OEM summer shutdown schedule and working-day effects.

According to a preliminary report by KSH, automotive manufacturing drove the output of industrial production in August. Hungary’s industrial production output recorded a growth not seen since March 2017.

After the upswing of the last six months, investment intentions have fallen back, and currently less than half of the businesses in Hungary are planning to carry out investments in the year to come.

In addition, the majority of Hungarian businesses are not planning to increase investment allocations, which could bring an end to the current wave of investments.

Mercedes-Benz is ensuring the future supply of engineers with an expanding dual education programme. The Kecskemét plant has taken a pioneer role in the development of dual education in Hungary, contributing to the growing popularity of this form of training and making the automotive career a more appealing option for young people.

A dual education centre will be built in Zalaegerszeg. Currently under construction, the new centre will allow students to acquire practical knowledge in parallel to their studies.
