Linamar has inaugurated its new electromobility centre in Békéscsaba, The HUF 17.6 billion project was supported with a HUF 4 billion investment subsidy by the Hungarian government.

In similar news, South Korea-based Soulbrain is investing HUF 7 billion to build an electrolyte plant in Tatabánya with a production area of 4,700 square metres, where the company will manufacture electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries.

Vitesco Technologies and Atomki have signed an R&D partnership agreement. Radu Sterp, head of Vitesco’s greenfield investment project in Debrecen, said that the company is striving to become a leading supplier in the auto industry.

The subsidiary of France-based Total is establishing a battery plant in Europe in a joint venture with PSA and Opel.

BMW is expanding its production capacity and headcount at a higher-than-expected rate in Dingolfing, Germany, at the manufacturer’s E-Drive competence centre. BMW is looking to double the number of modules for the manufacturing of high-voltage batteries due to an increasing demand on electric vehicles.

Chemical giant BASF is building a plant in Germany for the manufacturing of cathode units enough to supply 400,000 EVs a year.

Daimler reported on decreasing financial results in fiscal 2019. The manufacturer quoted unexpected costs related to Dieselgate and the introduction of several electric models as a reason for an EBIT of €4.3 million in 2019, a significant decrease from the €11.1 billion registered in fiscal 2018.

According to the first estimate of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary’s GDP grew by 4.9 percentage points in 2019 from the year before. In Q4 2019, the country’s economic growth amounted to 4.5 percent.

KSH said in a press release that the main driver of Hungary’s Q4 growth was market-based services, with industry and the construction industry contributing to a less significant degree. The GDP of the eurozone grew by 1.2 percent in 2019, while the GDP of all EU states showed a 1.4 percent increase.
