Kistelek lost the race for a new battery plant

Earlier it was confirmed that an Asian manufacturer is looking to bulid a new manufacturing site in Kistelek, north of Szeged. The city council approved the land purchase of the firm which supplies battery components for both BMW and Mercedes-Benz, however according to a recent interview with the mayor of Kistelek, Sándor Nagy, the battery manufacturer already ruled out building its plant on the aforementioned 12 hectare land. Sándor Nagy said it would take five years to increase the capacity of the local electrical grid to a level that supports the new plant, however the still unnamed Chinese manufacturer wants to start operations two and a half year from now at the latest.
