Hungary’s Gov’t to promote electric motoring
The Jedlik Ányos Programme, which is currently being prepared at the Ministry for National Economy, essentially aims to ready the country for the expected technical revolution to take place in transportation, such as electric mobility, Minister of State for Economic Regulation Kristóf Szatmáry said at the inauguration of a new electric car charging station in Budapest.
The new programme will lay down the guidelines for the introduction of the electric car support system and the Government intends to establish alliance with the companies that are active in this field, the Minister of State added.

Minister of State for Infrastructure from the Ministry of National Development Pál Völner stated that his ministry supports the annual competition of alternatively driven vehicles. He stressed that by the middle of the century only zero-emission vehicles will be allowed to be driven in cities, thus in the upcoming EU fiscal period it is already time to increase the number of charging points. As the Minister of State stressed cars could most optimally be charged with night rate electricity, reported the Ministry for National Economy.
Minister of State for Environmental Affairs Zoltán Illés emphasised that there is no perfect solution for the protection of the environment only less damaging ones. As the “ecological footprint” of an electric car is smaller than that of a traditional one, the ministry supports both purely electric and hybrid engines. In addition, bicycles, rollers and human legs are also alternative means of transport, he added.
As far as the future is concerned, Zoltán Illés pointed out that in most Western European countries states subsidize the purchasing of electric cars and further funding is provided for charging with “green” electric power. This is the direction the next Government will be also heading in.
ELMÜ-ÉMÁSZ Board of Directors Member Zoltán Kövesdi stated that private persons have been allowed to use charging columns free of charge and this will continue until the end of the year. The company currently has 20 public charging points in Budapest, while 14 more are at shopping centers and garages. The column they have now presented is one of ten new public charging points which are to be installed as part of the European Union’s Green eMotion project, reported the Ministry for National Economy in a statement.
