Hungarian new car registrations drop in H1 2022 despite EV boost

In the first half of 2022, 57,411 new passenger cars were registered in Hungary, representing a 11.4 percent drop year on year, the Hungarian Vehicle Importers’ Association (MGE) reported earlier this week.

According to data published by Datahouse, 2,265 electric cars were sold in the first half of the year, a 84.6 percent increase year on year, while PHEV sales showed a 19.1 percent growth to 2,436 units sold. Petrol-powered cars continue to account for the vast majority of Hungarian sales.

The used vehicle market saw an import volume of 68,965 cars, representing a 9.8 percent y/o/y increase.

The 9,302 LCVs sold makes for a 23.9 percent drop, while HGV registrations grew by 27.2 percent to 2,942 units.
