Hungarian car registrations up through October 2015

According to data released by Datahouse, in the first ten months of 2015, 76,844 new passenger cars and SUVs were registered, up 13.2 percent from the same month the year before (2014: 8,987 units).

The most popular brands are: Ford (9.728), Opel (8,335), Volkswagen (6,918), Skoda (6,502) and Suzuki (6,082). Hungarian-made models have been highly popular this year with two locally assembled models making an appearance in the TOP 10.

In October, 9,776 vehicles were registered (up 29.7 percent): 8,192 passenger cars (up 33.9 percent) and 1,584 light trucks (up 11.4 percent). Brand sales included 1,194 Volkswagen, 116 Opel, 1,069 Ford, 1,033 Suzuki and 727 Renault cars.

With engines manufactured in Szentgotthárd, Opel is leading the passenger car segment with 7,354 units sold locally this year.

Octavia remains in leading position in Hungarian car registrations

The first ten months were successful for Suzuki (+25.59 percent, 6,082 units), Kia (+25.59 percent, 2,734 units), Mercedes-Benz (+42.23 percent, 2,024 units), Mitsubishi (+46.2 percent, 61.9 percent,220 units), Isuzu (+44.81 percent, 391 units), Lexus (+46.2 percent, 212 units), Iveco (+61.9 percent, 204 units), Jeep (105.81 percent, 177 units), Subaru (33.68 percent, 127 units), Tesla (50 percent, 6 units), Mahindra (10 percent, 4 units) and Smart (+1,340 percent, 76 units).

In October, the weakest-performing brands were Lancia (-43.66 percent, 40 units) Alfa Romeo (-51.02 percent, 24 units) and Ferrari (-66.67 percent, 1 unit).

The most popular vehicles in the first ten months were compacts or small family cars (C-segment), accounting for 28.35 percent of all sales in Hungary. The best-selling car in this segment was the Skoda Octavia with 3,914 registrations.

Compacts were followed by SUVs (J-segment) with a market share of 15.99 percent (best-selling model: the Esztergom-made Suzuki Vitara with 2,841 units) and small cars (B-segment) with a 13.65 percent market share (best-selling model: Hungarian-made Suzuki Swift with 1,718 units sold).

The best-selling MPV (M-segment) was the Opel Meriva (520 units), also available with Hungarian-made engines, followed by the Toyota Verso (425 units) and the Hungarian-made Mercedes-Benz B-Class (374 units), while the most popular large family car (D-segment) was the Volkswagen Passat (1,277 units). The best-selling mini car (A-segment) was the Fiat 500 (1,337 units) and the most popular car in the executive segment (E-segment) was the BMW 5-series (318 units).

The best-selling sportscar (S-segment) was the Volkswagen W CC (83 units) and the most popular luxury car (F-segment) was the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (98 units). The best-selling light truck was the Fiat Ducato (1,299 units), while the best-selling LCV was the Dacia Dokker Van (502 units).

The best-selling pickup truck was the Ford Ranger (1,025 units), while the most popular van was the Volkswagen Transporter Kombi (666 units), according to Datahouse. HGV sales were dominated by 16-ton+ vehicles.

New 3.5ton+ vehicles are almost exclusively bought by international haulage firms (+16 percent, 4,410 units in total). Bus registrations saw a significant surge during the summer months: year-on-year the latest data by Datahouse shows a 30.74 percent growth (404 units).
