Italy-based Novation Tech, a manufacturer of automotive composite parts, has announced to expand its Szeghalom site with a HUF 1.3 billion investment, creating at least 50 jobs as a result.

The Rába Group and Széchenyi István University of Győr have signed a strategic partnership agreement. The company and the university will collaborate in research and development activities and launch a joint dual education programme.

Industrial automation and energy management specialist Schneider Electric has launched a programme to significantly increase its supplier base in Hungary and the entire Eastern European region.

The bus fleet of Pest County has been refreshed with ten large-capacity Volvo 8900 buses. These buses will guarantee a comfortable ride for over 180,000 passengers every year.

As part of the Green Bus Programme, for three weeks starting on February 11th, three hydrogen-powered vehicles will enter service on the route between Kőbánya-Kispest and Vecsés. This is the first time a bus with hydrogen drive to operate in Hungary’s community transport.

According to data published by Eurostat, Hungary is above the EU average and a regional leader in the share of energy used in transport from renewable sources. In 2020, 11.6 percent of the energy used in transport was from renewable sources.

Hungarians remain sceptical about electric vehicles that are considered as the centre piece of green transport. According to a survey by K&H, people named high prices, scarcity of charging stations and low range as the key disadvantages.

According to the Future Mobility Alliance, 2022 will be the heyday of car sharing. Last year, the number of Hungarian car sharing customers increased by one-third, and this growth is expected to continue in the current year as well.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), improvements in microchip supply will bring an improvement to car registration volumes in the European Union in 2022. However, sales are still expected to fall short of pre-pandemic levels.

The European Commission is preparing a comprehensive set of measures to guarantee the uninterrupted supply of microchips in the EU. The so-called microchip act will address key shortcomings and guarantee the EU’s role as a technology leader.
