Hungarian automotive industry: week 42

Hungary´s bus industry is showing signs of revival, a new Hungarian-built military vehicle has been unveiled and it has been announced that the CEO of Opel Szentgotthárd is leaving the plant to oversee the car maker´s Vienna-based operation. Hungary´s dual education is growing and there were reports on new investments from Japan.

Kühne Zrt is building a new production hall in Mosonmagyaróvár, which will be Hungary's largest bus manufacturing operation. Hungary-based bus and agricultural vehicle manufacturer Kühne Zrt. is investing HUF 0.5 billion in the new plant.

Last week, Gamma Műszaki Zrt. and the Defence Industry Association of Hungary unveiled a new military vehicle for military, civil protection, disaster management and border control tasks.

Effective from October, Tamás Solt, plant director at Opel Szentgotthárd for six years, will be transferred to the Aspern-based Opel plant near Vienna.

VW scandal

According to the latest data, the diesel emissions scandal is affecting 35,000 cars in Hungary. The German car maker has also announced austerity measures to handle the situation.

Automotive seat systems manufacturer Eagle Ottawa Hungary Kft. is building a new 17,000 m2 production hall at Szolnok Business Park with a HUF 9.5 billion investment, creating 1,000 new jobs as a result.

Brussels to produce new electric Audi SUV to debut in 2018

According to press sources, it will not be Győr but Brussels that will produce Audi's new electric SUV, although the new model will be fitted with Hungarian-made components.

Stadler Hungary has been granted its owner's consent for the assembly of bogie systems at the company's Szolnok operation.

It seems Hungary will welcome additional investments from Japan as it was reported last week that the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency is currently conducting negotiations with seven Japanese firms that could result in a total influx of €374 million and the creation of 600 new jobs in the country.

Hödlmayer celebrates 25 years of presence in Hungary

Tüke Busz Zrt., bus service operator in Pécs, has purchased 115 new Volvo buses, to be delivered by spring next year, to update the town's vehicle fleet.

In the last 25 years, Hödlmayr Hungária Logistics Kft. has invested over HUF 18 billion in Hungary, booked a total turnover of HUF 172 billion and forwarded over 3.1 billion vehicles.

Last week, VW honoured its best apprentices with the Best Apprentice Award 2015. Awardees include Levente Horváth, a car mechanic apprentice at Audi Hungaria.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Debrecen launched a dual education programme in Szeptember. Among other firms, automotive supplier Aventics Hungary Kft. is also a partner company in the university's practice-oriented course.

Economy

In August, the volume of industrial production in Hungary increased by 6.2 percent year-on-year, according to working-day adjusted and non-adjusted data released by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office last week.
