Currently under bankruptcy protection, Ikarus Egyedi Kft. has said it will undertake to pay off its debts by 2025 should it be allowed to continue production, and has offered a settlement to its creditors.

According to Videoton Holding co-CEO Ottó Sinkó, BMW’s investment will only start being beneficial for Hungary’s economy when the majority of the company’s suppliers will be Hungarian business or companies with presence in the country. However, this could take years or even decades.

Tom-Ferr Zrt. has begun the construction of a 4,000sqm tube plant at Tata Business Park in the vicinity of its existing production site. The company’s aim is to become a leading automotive supplier in Europe and increase the plant’s independence from external base material suppliers.

“Our customers are expecting more and more flexibility from us. This is primarily manifested in the fact that often they don’t even have a finished product to assemble, but their deadlines already require them to book the production line.

"From a technical point of view, this can result in difficult situations, as product and production development are conducted in parallel,” Attila Bera, CEO of Győr-based production equipment manufacturer Alprosys Célgépgyártó Kft, explained in an interview.

A battery-based energy storage facility has been inaugurated in Budapest. The research and development project aims to come up with a solution to balance power consumption and power generation, allowing weather-dependent renewables to be included in the system.

“Although our customers are primarily from the automotive, energy and environmental sectors, in the past two years we have received an increasing amount of orders from agricultural players. One of our main profiles is material testing, modelling, new materials, such as the development of ceramics and composites, and the research of intelligent logistics and IT systems.

"On an annual basis, we work with 100-150 SMEs and multinationals. Our observation is that in recent years, the number of interdisciplinary orders has increased, which means for instance that biologist develop projects with machine developers etc.”, Norbert Grasseli, director of Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. for Applied Research, told us in an interview.
