It was announced early last week that BMW had chosen Debrecen, Hungary, as the location of its latest manufacturing plant. Production is scheduled to launch in 2023.

The OEM has been known as the “invisible manufacturer” in Hungary, as it has purchased products and services at a value of €1.4 billion from Hungary, provided by 90 different Hungarian suppliers. This number is expected to further grow in the future.

We ran a number of articles dissecting the possible reasons behind BMW’s decision to opt for Debrecen.

Decision makers said they favoured the town’s infrastructure, logistical network and the location of BMW’s existing supplier network.

As one of the side effects, house prices are expected to increase by 40 percent in Debrecen in the years to come.
