Strategic agreements, investments and student competitions. Let´s recap what happened in week 30 in Hungary´s automotive sector.

On July 21 several employees at seatbelt and seat buckle manufacturer Autoliv reported sickness at the company's Sopronkövesd plant. The company said the problem was not a gas leakage but the heat wave, which has been causing issues in Hungary in the last two weeks, which was addressed by installing a number of mobile air-conditioning units at the production line.

Büchl Hungaria are expanding their waste treatment facility in Győr. Büchl Hungaria Kft. have been performing waste disposal for Audi's Hungarian plant for 15 years, but the company partners also include Bosch Hungary and aluminium components manufacturer Nemak Győr.

Hungarian gov't signs strategic agreement with Johnson Electric

The Hungarian government and automotive electronics parts manufacturer Johnson Electric Hungary Kft. signed a strategic cooperation agreement last week.

Mercedes and Audi supplier Siroma-Plast Kft. have announced another investment. Following a HUF 380 investment last year, Siroma-Plast Kft., a manufacturer of injection moulded plastic components, will carry out a HUF 200 million technology development project in Nagykanizsa, the CEO of the company announced last week.

Last week we reported that a number of Hungarian engineers have worked on the new Volvo XC90 hybrid. The control unit of the car's electronic drivetrain was developed by the Hungarian engineers of evosoft.

Students from Óbuda University outdo their previous results at Shell Eco-marathon

We accompanied the team from Óbuda University to the world's largest energy efficiency competition, the Shell Eco-marathon. The team managed to improve their result from last year: In 2014, the team covered 434km with a single litre of petrol, this year they outdid their previous best by 131.3km.

We also reported on SZEngine Team from Széchenyi István University of Győr. The team are working hard to develop a racing engine for the Formula Student (FS) racing series. In FS, the participants develop and build their own cars but usually source their engines from a third party manufacturer. However, the engines only become usable after a significant conversions as per the race regulations. The team from Széchenyi University offer a viable alternative, which is planned to make its debut in the 2016 season.

SZEngine develop new engine specifically for FS teams

The scientists at CERN, the world's largest hadrons collider have used the open laboratory of National Instruments in Debrecen for the development of technological solutions for the next generation of particle accelerators. NI's Science Park, built with a HUF 4 billion investment and supported with a 50 percent subsidy from EU funds, was inaugurated at the end of last year.

The Science Park houses an open laboratory where domestic SMEs can bring alive their innovations using NI 3000 products and tools and the support of the company's engineers. For three months, however, the facility was also frequented by two CERN scientists.
