Hungarian automotive industry: week 11 2019 edition

Continental pays bonus to employees, Audi Hungaria to keep TT in production portfolio, Audi AG plans on major restructuring, half a million Vitaras produced by Suzuki Esztergom. Let’s recap what last week brought in Hungary’s automotive sector.

Audi Hungaria held its annual press conference on its financial results in 2018, where plant director Achim Heinfling said the company has no intention to stop the production of the Audi TT. The company will start manufacturing the Q3 Sportback in the second half of the year, while some of the A3 Sedan capacities will be relocated to Ingolstadt.

At the same time, Audi AG also published its 2018 results, and also announced plans of significant restructuring across the entire group.

“We train students in four disciplines: we train industrial machinists, machine production technicians, mechanical machining technicians and CNC operators. In our practical training we have available traditional manual processing, from universal cutting machinery to the latest CNC-operated equipment. Currently we have 83 training contracts, including those participating in adult training,” Tamás Büttner, CEO of Büttner és Társai Szerszámelemgyártó és Kereskedelmi Kft., told our site in an interview.

Increasing wages have doubled staff costs over the year at Hajdu. The largest wage increase affected manual workers and skilled workers, but each field saw a two-digit boost.

Continental will pay a bonus to all its workers, including its Hungarian employees. Hungarian staffers will receive a €380 bonus per person.

Large families will be supported with a HUF 2.5 million non-refundable support for new-car purchases. Duna Autó has made a list of all eligible models.

“We have already begun the hiring of engineers and operators. Every day, 2,000 people commute to work from Komárom. It is key to make sure local salaries are competitive so that the local workforce is discouraged from looking for jobs in distant locations. The town is responsible in providing an adequate background for such an investment,” Attila Molnár, the mayor of Komárom, said in connection with battery manufacturer SK Innovation’s latest investment project.

A new industrial facility is under construction in Fehérgyarmat, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, suited for production companies.

Wage tensions ended with an agreement at Chinese-owned Wescast Hungary Autóipari Zrt.’s 1,200-strong plant in Oroszlány.

Leadec Kft., a company engaged in industrial maintenance activities, has increased its headcount by 150 employees.

Workers have been on strike at Hankook’s Rácalmás plant since March 12. According to the company, the stoppage has not caused significant outages in Hankook’s production.
