Government establishes National Bus Procurement Committee

The Hungarian government has established a National Bus Procurement Committee, which is expected to promote the preparation of bus procurements in line with industrial policy objectives by working closely with regional public transport centres and the state-owned regional bus company Volánbusz, it was published this week in official gazette Magyar Közlöny.

The committee will be headed by the Minister of National Economy, and will consist of the state secretaries responsible for EU-supported development, budget, public transport policy, and asset management policy.

With a national strategy for bus manufacturing, the Hungarian government’s aim is to see 1,000–1,200 buses produced in Hungary annually, a target that would create over a thousand new jobs in the country.
