Foundation stone laid for BMW plant in Debrecen
The construction of BMW’s new plant in Debrecen is a token of 12 years of successful Hungarian economic policy. The more than €1 billion investment will create over 1,000 local jobs, Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s minister of foreign affairs and trade, said at the plant's foundation-stone laying ceremony.
Hungary is about to become the first country outside Germany to be home to all three German premium OEMs.
Following recent phases of infrastructure development, the construction of various facilities is now underway at the Debrecen site.
The plant is planned to manufacture 150,000 vehicles annually, and will launch the series production of the fully electric Neue Klasse, a model not yet part of the brand’s portfolio, in 2025.
