European Parliament adopts mobility package, endangers EE-based hauliers

The European Parliament has adopted a major reform of the EU road transport sector, set to improve the working conditions and posting rules for truck drivers in international transport, the EP announced earlier this week.
Known as the mobility package, the new set of rules aims to eliminate competition-distorting practices in the transport sector and improve the working and social conditions of truck drivers.
Hungarian MEP István Ujhelyi (MSZP), vice-president of the EP’s transport and tourism committee, said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI that the adoption of the new rules will create an artificial division line within the EU’s single internal market, putting hauliers from Eastern and Central Eastern Europe at risk.
