Hungarian oil and gas company MOL and Miskolc University have jointly launched a separate department at the University's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Petroleum engineering is taught solely at the University of Miskolc, which is why there was an obvious match between the higher educational institute and MOL.

András Torma, the Rector of the University of Miskolc, said the establishment of the MOL Department is a red letter day for the University. The Department is a result of a strategic cooperation agreement signed half a year ago between the two parties.

Ákos Kriza, Mayor of Miskolc, emphasised that Takata's investment in Miskolc is the second largest domestic greenfield project after the Mercedes plant in Kecskemét. He added that a development process has started, and its most important pillar is the University of Miskolc. According to the Mayor, the MOL Group has recognised the University's potential.

Dean Péter Szűcs pointed out in connection with the establishment of the department that MOL's long-term aims are in harmony with the Faculty's plans for the long run, namely the expansion of training in English and a high-quality form of training which takes into account the industry's requirements. The MOL Department is also a good example for dual education, he added.

Sándor Fasimon, CEO of MOL Hungary, said that this a day to celebrate for the company as well. He reminded that several engineers working at the company graduated from the University of Miskolc.

He said the company is currently working on two projects in Tiszaújváros: construction of a new butadiene extraction plant is already under way, and the company has also signed a strategic agreement with a Japanese company on the construction of a rubber factory to process the material produced at the butadiene plant.

"There will be oil and gas industry," said the CEO encouraging the students, adding that it will require outstanding language skills and expertise. He added: every condition is given for achieving this.

"A future-oriented agreement has been concluded," said Roland Mengyi, President of the County General Assembly of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, about the cooperation between the University and MOL, which also serves the interests of the country and not just the students. He reminded that reindustrialisation forms an important part of the government's policy.
