Daimler to invest nearly €2 bln to expand Hungarian manufacturing activities
Daimler will spend €1 billion on a new Mercedes plant in Kecskemét, a project that will create 2,500 jobs in the country.
Daimler will invest €596 million in the existing plant to add new-generation compact models to its current production activities, €260 million to build a new body shop and €13 million to build a logistics base, Hungary’s economy minister Mihály Varga announced following a meeting with Daimler Buses boss Hartmut Schick and Mercedes-Benz Hungária Kft. Jörg Schmidt.
In addition, Daimler will take a role in the strengthening of local bus manufacturing and boosting EV sales in Hungary.
The Hungarian government has agreed to carry out significant energetic and road infrastructure development in Kecskemét and the surrounding region to ensure an uninterrupted power supply for the Kecskemét Mercedes-Benz plant.
