Chinese bus OEM to establish production site in Komárom
China-based BYD has announced to build its first European location for the production of electric buses in Komárom, Hungary, a project set to create 200 jobs in the region.
Hungarian news agency MTI reported that staff recruitment will begin in September, while production is planned to start in late-2016.
As a first step, 30 percent of the buses assembled in Komárom will be sourced from Hungarian suppliers, an amount to be increased to 70 percent in the long term.
The plant has been reported to have a capacity to assemble a maximum of nearly 1,000 electric buses annually, with actual production volumes ramping up to correspond to market demand.
The Komárom-based BYD plant will build electric buses for the Hungarian and European market.
