Audi Hungaria to build new logistics hall to support boost in production

Archaeological works are already under way at the area where the construction of a 66,000-square-metre logistics unit will soon begin. The HUF 10 billion investment is expected to be finished by autumn 2015.

The car maker's existing logistics hall, handed over in 2013, is not able to fulfil the Győr-based Audi plant's production capacity.

Audi Hungaria spokesperson Mónika Czechmeister told local daily Kisalföld that the contractor for the new logistics hall would be A-K Építőipari Kft., who are also responsible for the construction of the existing facility.

According to the company, the permits were granted by the environment protection authorities in autumn 2014. Construction works will begin in Q1 2015. Audi Hungaria expects the new logistics unit to be handed over in autumn 2015.

Audi Hungaria purchased the area on September 5, 2014. Czechmeister confirmed that the land had indeed been purchased, just as in the case of the previous logistics centre. Previously, the company leased the facility.

"Thanks to the investment, the total area of Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. will grow from 4 million to 5 million square metres. We will create hundreds of new jobs. The second logistics hall will exceed the other facility by 4,000 square metres in size," the company's spokesperson added.
