Opel Szentgotthárd set to reach full capacity in coming years
Grzegorz Buchal, CEO of Opel Szentgotthárd, said the plant is planning to manufacture 650,000 engines this year; they currently supply engines for 60–70 percent of all Opel cars sold on the European market.
Poland-born Buchal replaced Tamás Solt as chief executive at Opel Szentgotthárd in February 2016.
He said this will be the most productive year yet in the Szentgotthárd plant’s history, it is now almost running at full capacity, with production expected to further increase next year.
Last year, 511,000 engines were manufactured in Szentgotthárd on the Flex line and the old production line.
Buchal added that Opel is expecting to build between 100,000 and 120,000 old-generation Family engines this year, but the production of the Family product line is slowly being phased out, while volumes will continue to grow on the new Flex line.
